Understanding how online casino regulation actually works in Ontario
The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) is the provincial regulator that licenses and oversees online casinos in Ontario. Since April 2022, they've been the ones making sure everything's above board.
Every licensed casino must display their AGCO license number prominently on their website. It usually looks like "OPIG1234567" or similar.
Visit the official AGCO website and search their public registry using the license number to confirm it's valid and current.
Make sure the company name on the license matches what's shown in the casino's terms and conditions.
If you can't find a license number, or if the site seems to be targeting players outside Ontario, that's a warning sign.
Here are some of the major operators currently licensed by the AGCO (as of 2024):
Operates JackpotCity Casino and other brands
Multiple casino brands under this license
Major international operator with Ontario presence
Note: Always verify license numbers directly with the AGCO registry, as this information can change. We update this list regularly but recommend double-checking.
Playing at unlicensed casinos means you have no legal protections if something goes wrong. Your deposits aren't protected, disputes can't be resolved through official channels, and there's no guarantee the games are fair.
